Farm vs. Ranch

Now, let's see what we can learn about these two. I'm sure you know both are terms mostly used in agriculture, don't you?

"Farm" vs. "Ranch" in English

What Is Their Main Difference?

Both refer to a place in the country where there is a lot of greenery, plants, and animals like cows and horses. However, a 'farm' is a land in which we grow crops, whereas, a 'ranch' is where we raise animals like sheep, cows, etc.

Differences

A 'farm' is a land outside of the city where we grow crops and it has an agricultural basis. Look at the following examples:

I wish I were raised in a farm.

We can have animals like chickens in a farm.

A 'ranch', on the other hand, refers to a land in which we raise livestock like 'sheep', 'cows', 'horses', etc. Look at the examples below:

I've never been to a ranch before.

The cows look so calm over there in that ranch.

Similarities

Both refer to lands where we can grow crops and raise different animals like 'sheep', 'cows', etc. Check out the examples below:

In our trip, we are gonna stop by one of the biggest farms in the country and have a lovely time with the farmer.

A : Where is he headed to?

B : He's headed to the ranch, of course.

Are They Interchangebale?

Although they both refer to lands with plants and animals, they cannot be used interchangeably. Their uses are different. Both examples are correct but htye refer to different locations. Compare:

✓ Some of the sheep in the ranch are missing.

✓ Some of the sheep in the farm are missing.
