A major is the primary subject or field of study that a student chooses to focus on during their time at a university or college. It involves a specific area of knowledge that the student develops expertise in through courses, research, and practical experience. Choosing a major helps guide a student's academic path and often determines their future career opportunities. It can range from fields like biology, history, or engineering to more specialized areas like art or economics. Students typically complete a set of required courses within their major to earn a degree.

A minor is a secondary area of study that a student can pursue alongside their major at a university or college. It allows students to explore an additional field of interest with fewer requirements than the major. While the minor is not as extensive as the major, it still involves completing a series of courses related to the subject. Choosing a minor can provide students with a broader education, help develop complementary skills, or enhance their qualifications for certain careers. Students typically select a minor based on personal interest or to complement their major.
