The Great Pyramid of Giza is a very famous landmark. It is in Egypt, close to Cairo. The pyramid was built over 4,500 years ago for an Egyptian king named Pharaoh Khufu.
La Grande Pyramide de Gizeh est un monument très célèbre. Elle se trouve en Égypte, près du Caire. La pyramide a été construite il y a plus de 4 500 ans pour un roi égyptien nommé Pharaon Khéops.
The pyramid is very big and tall. When people first made it, it was 146 meters high. Now, it is a bit shorter, about 139 meters, because some stones are missing. The bottom of the pyramid is very wide. It covers almost 53,000 square meters.
La pyramide est très grande et haute. Lorsque les gens l'ont construite pour la première fois, elle mesurait 146 mètres de haut. Building the Great Pyramid was a big job. It is made from millions of heavy stones. Each stone weighs about 2,500 kilograms. People think it took about 20 years to build. The workers used simple tools, not machines like we have now.
Construire la Grande Pyramide était un travail colossal. Elle est faite de millions de pierres lourdes. Chaque pierre pèse environ 2 500 kilogrammes. On pense qu'il a fallu environ 20 ans pour la construire. Les travailleurs utilisaient des outils simples, pas des machines comme nous en avons maintenant.
Inside the pyramid, there are three main rooms. The largest room was for the king's tomb. The other rooms held things the king might need after death. There are also long hallways that connect these rooms.
