Earthquake

Read about natural elements water, air, fire, and earth and how they are part of nature in simple English.

1.1

An earthquake is when the ground shakes. The shaking can be small or strong. Sometimes, it is very fast. The ground moves because the rocks under the earth move.

1.2

During an earthquake, buildings and trees can move. Things on the ground can fall. People feel the shaking and can be scared. Animals also notice the shaking.

1.3

People must be careful during an earthquake. They stay safe inside or go to an open place outside. People do not run too fast. They stay away from buildings, trees, or heavy things.

1.4

After the earthquake, the ground stops shaking. People check if everyone is safe. Sometimes, small earthquakes called aftershocks happen. The ground shakes again, but usually not as strong.

1.5

Earthquakes are part of nature. They can happen in many places in the world. People learn how to be ready for earthquakes. Buildings can be made strong. People can practice what to do.

1.6

Even though earthquakes can be dangerous, people know how to stay safe. They watch for shaking, move carefully, and help others.
