An ace is a card in a deck of playing cards that typically holds the highest or lowest value, depending on the game being played. In most card games, the ace is the highest card in the deck, especially in games like poker or bridge, where it is often used to form strong hands. However, in some games, such as certain versions of Blackjack, the ace can also be counted as the lowest card, worth one point. The specific role of the ace can vary by game, but it is always a key card with a unique value, making it important in gameplay and strategy.

A joker is a special card in a deck of playing cards, usually included as one or two extra cards alongside the standard 52. The joker is often used as a wild card in many card games, meaning it can represent any other card to help complete a hand or win a trick. In some games, the joker has a specific role, such as being a trump card or a card that can substitute for another in order to create a winning combination. However, in many traditional card games, the joker is not used at all. Its role and value depend on the rules of the specific game being played.

A pip is a term used to describe the small symbols or markings on playing cards that represent their rank or value. In a standard deck, pip cards are those numbered cards, from 2 to 10, in each suit, hearts, diamonds, clubs, spades. The number of pips on the card corresponds to its rank; for example, a 3 of hearts has three heart-shaped pips, and a 7 of spades has seven spade-shaped pips. The face cards, jack, queen, king, and the ace are not considered pip cards, as they do not have these numbered symbols.

Trump is a special suit in many card games that is considered stronger than the other suits. When a trump suit is declared, cards from that suit can win a trick, regardless of the rank of the other cards played. For example, in a game like bridge or whist, if the trump suit is spades, a spade card will win over any card from the other suits, even if the other card is of higher rank. The trump suit is usually decided before the game starts or during the bidding phase. In some games, a specific card, like the joker or the highest card of the trump suit, can also play a special role as a "trump card."

A four-color deck is a variation of a standard deck of playing cards where each of the four suits is represented by a different color. Typically, in a standard deck, the suits of hearts and diamonds are red, while the suits of clubs and spades are black. In a four-color deck, the suit of hearts is red, diamonds are blue, clubs are green, and spades are black. This variation makes it easier to distinguish between suits, especially in games where multiple suits need to be played or tracked quickly. The cards still follow the same basic structure as a standard deck, with 13 cards in each suit, but the different colors help players identify suits more easily.

A cold card is a card that has not been played or revealed in previous rounds of a card game. Because it has remained hidden, players are unaware of its presence and do not anticipate it being part of the current play. This card is considered "cold" because it adds an element of surprise when it is eventually used or shown, as players have no prior knowledge or expectation of it being in the game. The appearance of a cold card can sometimes influence the outcome of a hand, especially if it changes the direction of play or helps form a winning combination.
