Airplane
Read a short passage about a flying vehicle used to travel quickly through the sky over long distances.
1.1
The airplane is a very important invention.  It changed how we travel and meet people.  The history of the airplane is very interesting.

1.2
The Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur, made the first real airplane.  They flew it for the first time on December 17, 1903.  This happened in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.  The flight was only 12 seconds long, but it showed people could fly.

1.3
After this, many inventors worked on airplanes.  In World War I, airplanes were used in fighting for the first time.  They watched enemy movements and dropped bombs.  Airplanes became faster and better.

1.4
In the 1920s and 1930s, people started flying for business and vacations.  In 1927, Charles Lindbergh flew alone from New York to Paris without stopping.  This took 33.5 hours.  This made air travel more popular.

1.5
In World War II, airplanes were very important.  They moved soldiers and supplies.  After the war, air travel grew fast.  New technology made airplanes safer and more comfortable.

1.6
Today, airplanes are common for long trips.  They fly high and fast.  Modern airplanes are very advanced and can carry many passengers.  Air travel connects the world.

1.7
Airplanes have changed a lot since the Wright brothers' first flight.  They help us explore the world and stay close to family and friends.  Airplanes are very important in our lives and will be in the future too.

1.8
Fun fact: The longest flight is from Singapore to New York.  It takes about 18 hours and covers nearly 16,700 kilometers.
