A hamburger is a popular food. It has a beef patty. A patty is a flat and round piece of cooked meat. This patty goes between a round bread called a bun. Hamburger usually has toppings like cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions, and sauces like ketchup or mustard. Everyone can add their favorite toppings.
The word "hamburger" comes from Hamburg, a city in Germany. A long time ago, people there made a meal with ground beef and called it a Hamburg steak. Some Germans brought this food idea to the United States when they moved there.
In the United States, hamburgers became very popular. They were easy to make and they tasted good. People started to sell them at food stands and small shops. One of the first times they sold hamburgers was at an event in Connecticut in 1900.
Fast food restaurants made hamburgers even more popular. These restaurants could make hamburgers quickly and sell them for a low price. Now, people all over the world eat hamburgers.
Eating a hamburger at a restaurant is fun. There are many kinds of hamburgers. Some are simple; others have many toppings and special sauces. You can choose what you like.
You can also make hamburgers at home. You need ground beef, a bun, and any toppings you like. Cooking a hamburger is easy. You cook the beef on a pan, then put it on the bun, and add your toppings.
Fun fact : The biggest hamburger ever made weighed more than 1000 kilograms. That is almost the weight of a little car!
