Eiffel Tower

Read a short passage about a tall iron tower that stands in the heart of Paris.

1.1

The Eiffel Tower is a very famous building. It is in Paris, France. It was built for the 1889 World's Fair. The tower was designed by Gustave Eiffel. This is why it is called the Eiffel Tower.

The Eiffel Tower is very tall. It is 324 meters high. This makes it one of the tallest buildings in Paris. It was the tallest building in the world until 1930. You can see it from many parts of the city.

The tower is made of iron. It took more than two years to build. Many workers helped to build it. They used more than 18,000 pieces of iron. These pieces are held together by over 2.5 million rivets.

There are three levels in the Eiffel Tower. People can visit these levels. They can use elevators or stairs. The first level has a restaurant and shops. The second level has another restaurant and a great view of Paris. The third level is the highest. It has a viewing area. From here, people can see very far.

Every year, millions of people visit the Eiffel Tower. It is one of the most visited places in the world. Many people like to take pictures of the tower. At night, the tower is lit up with lights. It looks very beautiful.

The Eiffel Tower is a symbol of Paris and France. It is known all around the world. People often think of the Eiffel Tower when they think of Paris. It is an important part of French culture.

Fun fact : The Eiffel Tower can be taller or shorter depending on the temperature. When it is hot, the iron expands, and the tower can be up to 15 centimeters taller!
