Golden Gate Bridge

Read a short passage about a big red bridge in San Francisco that crosses the bay.

The Golden Gate Bridge is very famous. It is in San Francisco, California. The bridge connects San Francisco to Marin County. It is one of the most famous landmarks in the world.

The Golden Gate Bridge is very long. It is about 2.7 kilometers long. The main part of the bridge is 1,280 meters long. The bridge is also very high. It is 227 meters tall from the water to the top.

The bridge is orange-red. This color is called "International Orange." The color helps the bridge stand out in the fog. San Francisco has a lot of fog.

The bridge was built a long time ago. Construction started in 1933 and ended in 1937. It took four years to build. Many workers helped build the bridge. It is very strong and well-made.

Many people visit the Golden Gate Bridge. They come from all over the world. People like to walk or ride bicycles on the bridge. There are walkways for people. Cars also drive on the bridge every day.

The bridge is important for travel. It helps people go from one side of the bay to the other. Before the bridge, people had to use a ferry boat. The bridge makes travel faster and easier.

Fun fact : Many people think it should be gold because of its name. But it is orange-red. The name "Golden Gate" comes from the Golden Gate Strait, the water it crosses.
