Ice Hockey

Read a short passage about a fast-paced game played on ice where teams use sticks to hit a puck into the opponent’s goal.

1.1

Ice hockey is a fast game played on ice. Players wear special shoes with metal blades, called skates, to move on the ice. Each team has six players. The goal of the game is to hit a small, round object called a puck into the other team’s net. Players use long sticks to hit the puck. Ice hockey games are played inside a big building with an ice floor.

1.2

The ice area, or rink, is about 60 meters long and 26 meters wide. There are two nets, one at each end of the rink. Each team has one player, called a goalie, who stands in front of the net and tries to stop the puck from going in. The goalie wears more protective clothes than the other players because the puck can hit very hard.

1.3

Ice hockey is a strong and fast game. Players skate quickly and sometimes bump into each other. It is important for players to be strong and fast. Teams need to work together to win. They pass the puck to each other and try to make smart moves.

1.4

Ice hockey is very popular in cold places, like Canada, Russia, and Sweden. It is also played in other places where people can find ice rinks. Many people love to watch ice hockey games, and big events like the Olympics have ice hockey competitions.

1.5

Fun fact : The fastest shot in ice hockey was recorded at 183 kilometers per hour! That is faster than some cars on the highway.
