Read a short story of an artist who created some of the most famous artworks in history.

Leonardo da Vinci was a famous artist and inventor.  He was born on April 15, 1452, in Vinci, Italy.  Leonardo was very curious and smart from a young age.  He loved to learn about the world. 

Leonardo da Vinci was een beroemde kunstenaar en uitvinder. Hij werd geboren op 15 april 1452 in Vinci, Italië. Leonardo was al op jonge leeftijd erg nieuwsgierig en slim. Hij hield ervan om over de wereld te leren.

Leonardo moved to Florence when he was a teenager.  There, he learned how to paint and draw.  He became a very good artist.  People noticed his talent and he got many jobs that were painting pictures. 

Leonardo verhuisde naar Florence toen hij een tiener was. Daar leerde hij hoe hij moest schilderen en tekenen. Hij werd een zeer goede kunstenaar. Mensen merkten zijn talent op en hij kreeg veel opdrachten om schilderijen te maken.

One of Leonardo's most famous paintings is the "Mona Lisa."  Another famous work is "The Last Supper."  These paintings are very famous around the world.  People love them because they are so beautiful.

Leonardo loved painting but he was also interested in how things work.  He studied the human body, animals, and nature.  He made many drawings of what he learned.  His notebooks are full of these drawings. 

Leonardo hield van schilderen maar was ook geïnteresseerd in hoe dingen werken. Hij bestudeerde het menselijk lichaam, dieren en de natuur. Hij maakte veel tekeningen van wat hij leerde. Zijn notitieboeken staan vol met deze tekeningen.

Leonardo also liked to invent things.  He drew designs for machines like helicopters and bicycles long time before they were really made.  He never built his inventions, but his ideas were very advanced for his time. 

Leonardo hield er ook van om dingen uit te vinden. Hij tekende ontwerpen voor machines zoals helikopters en fietsen lang voordat ze echt werden gemaakt. Hij heeft zijn uitvindingen nooit gebouwd, maar zijn ideeën waren zeer geavanceerd voor zijn tijd.

Leonardo spent his last years in France.  The king of France invited him there.  The king really liked Leonardo's works.  Leonardo died on May 2, 1519, in Amboise, France.  He was 67 years old. 

Leonardo bracht zijn laatste jaren door in Frankrijk. De koning van Frankrijk nodigde hem daar uit. De koning hield echt van Leonardo's werken. Leonardo stierf op 2 mei 1519 in Amboise, Frankrijk. Hij was 67 jaar oud.

Fun fact: Leonardo da Vinci could write with one hand and draw with the other hand at the same time.  This is very hard to do.  This skill shows how talented and special he was.
