اسامی مفرد و جمع چیستند؟
اسم مفرد به یک فرد، مکان، چیز یا ایده اشاره دارد. اما اسم جمع به بیش از یک فرد، مکان، چیز یا ایده اشاره دارد.
ساختار
بیشتر اسم‌های جمع با اضافه کردن "-s" به انتهای اسم مفرد تشکیل می‌شوند. برای مثال:

اگر یک اسم مفرد به s، x، z، ch یا sh ختم شود، شکل جمع با اضافه کردن "-es" تشکیل می‌شود.

اگر یک اسم مفرد به یک صامت و سپس "-y" ختم شود، شکل جمع با جایگزینی "-y" با "-ies" تشکیل می‌شود. به عنوان مثال:

اسامی بی‌قاعده
شکل جمع برخی اسامی از این قاعده پیروی نمی‌کنند و به‌شکل متفاوت تشکیل می‌شوند. مثلاْ:

سازگاری با فعل
هنگامی که اسم‌ها در جایگاه فاعل استفاده می‌شوند، باید با اسامی مفرد از فعل مفرد و با اسامی جمع از فعل جمع استفاده شود. به مثال‌ها توجه کنید:
