Come Esprimiamo le Date?
Esprimere le date comporta scrivere il mese, il giorno e l'anno per riferirsi a un giorno specifico sul calendario.
Come Chiedere le Date?
Per chiedere la data, possono essere utilizzate le seguenti domande. Le risposte a queste domande iniziano con "It is...".
- 'What day is it? + 'It is December 24th.'
- 'Che giorno è?' + 'È il 24 dicembre.'
- 'What month is it?' + 'It is August.'
- 'Che mese è?' + 'È agosto.'
- 'What year is it?' + 'It’s 2023.'
- 'Che anno è?' + 'È il 2023.'
Nomi dei Giorni
Una settimana ha 7 giorni. La seguente lista dà i nomi dei giorni della settimana:
Monday → lunedì
Tuesday → martedì
Wednesday → mercoledì
Thursday → giovedì
Friday → venerdì
Saturday → sabato
Sunday → domenica
Nomi dei Mesi
Un anno ha 12 mesi. Ogni mese ha 4 settimane e da 29 a 31 giorni. Guarda la lista qui sotto:

May → maggio
June → giugno
July → luglio
August → agosto
September → settembre
October → ottobre

Come Scrivere le Date
Per leggere la data, inizia con il primo numero che è il giorno. Poi, passa al mese e infine all'anno.
Per leggere la data, usa i numeri ordinali. Guarda la lista qui sotto per impararne alcuni:
1 → first → primo
2 → second → secondo
3 → third → terzo
4 → fourth → quarto
5 → fifth → quinto
5/9/2025 → the fifth of November
il quinto di novembre
1/3/1998 → the first of March
il primo di marzo
3/12/2007 → the third of December
il terzo di dicembre
Preposizioni
Quando si parla di date, vengono usate diverse preposizioni in inglese. 'In' si usa quando si parla dell'anno e del mese, e 'on' si usa quando si parla del giorno. Guarda:
I'm going to Italy in June.
Andrò in Italia a giugno.
I may visit her on Sunday.
Potrei andarla a trovare domenica.
A differenza dell'italiano, l'inglese usa la preposizione "on" prima dei giorni della settimana.
They were in France in 1998.
Erano in Francia nel 1998.

Nota che i nomi dei giorni e dei mesi sono nomi propri in inglese e la loro prima lettera è sempre maiuscola.
