Angle vs. Angel

Most English learners mistake these two words. In this lesson, we will learn all about them. So, would you like to come with me?

"Angle" vs. "Angel" in English

What Is Their Main Difference?

These two words are commonly mistaken for another, but they are completely different. 'Angle' refers to a position between a vertical and a horizontal line whereas, an 'angel' is a heavenly creature with wings and is thought to be a servant of God.

Differences

As stated above, these two words are used in totally different contexts. 'Angle' refers to a line position between a vertical line and a horizontal one. Look:

I'd like to view this statue from different angles.

The book is open at a 45 degree angle.

However, an 'angel' is a celestial creature with wings. Many people consider them to be beautiful and kind. Check out the following examples:

Yea, I think she is my guardian angel.

The angels gathered around and listened to what Arcade had to say.

Similarities

As stated above, the only similarity between these two is that their dictations are nearly the same. Check out the following examples:

In this ballet position, you have to hold one of your arms at a 45 angle.

When I was a kid, my mom told me that an angel is always with me.

Are They Interchangeable?

Since these two words have totally different meanings, they cannot be used interchangeably. Compare:

✓ Most angels are thought to have tiaras on their heads.

X Most angles are thought to have tiaras on their heads.

As stated above, an 'angle' shows a position between a vertical and a horizontal line and cannot have tiaras.
