Have you ever wondered about the differences between 'amused' and 'bemused'? Well, in this lesson, we're gonna learn all about them.

"Bemused" vs. "Amused" in English

What Is Their Main Difference?

Both of these words refer to a person's emotional state. However, 'amused' is used when someone fells entertained and interested in something whereas, 'bemused' is a person who feels confused.

Differences

As stated above, 'amused' indicates that someone is feeling entertained and excited about something. Look below:

Everyone used to be amused when my dad talked in the past.

'Bemused', on the other hand, is used to show someone is perplexed and cannot make a clear firm decision. Look below:

If you feel bemused, try to write it all down on a piece of paper.

Similarities

As mentioned above, both of these words refer to a person's inner emotional state. Check out the following examples:

I love it when my children look amused.

Bemused as she was, she finally decided to do something to relax.

Are They Interchangeable?

Although both of these words refer to a person's emotional state, they cannot be used interchangeably because they have totally different meanings. Below, we have two examples with different meanings:

✓ I was only trying to make you fell amused.

✓ I was only trying to make you fell bemused.
