What about these two? Have you ever encountered them? Do you know their differences and similarities? Well, I'm here to tell you all about them.

"Principal" vs. "Principle" in English

What Is Their Main Difference?

These two have nearly the same dictations. However, 'principle' refers to a particular rule, whereas, 'principal' describes a person who is the boss. In other words, that person is n charge of many important things in a certain company, etc.

Differences

As stated above, 'principle' refers to a particular kind of law. One has to conform to it. Check out the following examples:

According to the school's principles, all students must be in their dormitories by 9.

Such dictatorial principles only result in more killings and massacres.

'Principal', on the other hand, refers to someone who is in control of a particular place or community. In other words. this person has certain duties to attend to. Look at the following examples:

Mr. Hendrix will be our university's next principal.

Everyone stood up and greeted the principal as she entered the room.

Similarities

The only similarity between these two is their nearly identical dictations. Other than that, they share no similarities.

Are They Interchangeable?

As it is clear, these two can never be used interchangeably because 'principle' refers to a specific rule, whereas, 'principal' refers to the person who is in charge of certain things in a particular community. Compare:

✓ In order to be able to live in this society, you have to conform to certain principles.

X In order to be able to live in this society, you have to conform to certain principals.

As you can see, this one is semantically wrong.
