What Is Phonology?

Phonology is a field of study with investigates the patterns of sounds in a language. It is the study of speech sounds in languages; how speech sounds are perceived in our mind and we use them to convey meaning.

Phonology vs. Phonetics

Phonology is the study of abstract matters in regard to the speech sound of a language, whereas phonetics is concerned with the physical properties of sounds.
