Che Cos'è il Passato Semplice?
Il passato semplice si usa per descrivere azioni che sono accadute e sono state completate nel passato. Spesso si forma aggiungendo '-ed' alla forma base dei verbi regolari, ma ha forme diverse per i verbi irregolari.
Struttura
Per formare il passato semplice, si utilizza la forma al passato del verbo.
Per formare il passato di un verbo regolare, aggiungi '-ed' alla forma base del verbo. Ad esempio:
walk → walked
camminare → camminò
play → played
giocare → giocato
talk → talked
parlare → parlato
Se il verbo termina già in '-e', basta aggiungere '-d' alla forma base del verbo. Ad esempio:
love → loved
amare → amato
free → freed
liberare → liberato
bake → baked
cuocere → cotto
Ortografia
Se un verbo regolare monosillabico termina con una vocale + una consonante, raddoppia l'ultima consonante prima di aggiungere '-ed' per formare il passato. Ad esempio:
beg → begged
implorare → implorò
skip → skipped
saltare → saltato
Verbi Irregolari
I verbi irregolari non seguono la regola menzionata sopra. Questi verbi hanno forme diverse nel passato. Ad esempio:
go → went
andare → andato
bring → brought
portare → portò
know → knew
sapere → sapeva
run → ran
correre → corse
have → had
avere → aveva
do → did
fare → fece
Passato del Verbo 'To Be'
'To be' è uno dei verbi irregolari in inglese che ha due forme per il passato:

Negazione
Per la negazione dei verbi al passato semplice, si aggiunge 'did not' o la forma contratta 'didn't' prima della forma base del verbo:

Per negare un verbo 'to be', basta aggiungere 'not' dopo la sua forma al passato (was/were).

Domande
Per formare domande usando il passato semplice, basta usare 'did' all'inizio della frase e cambiare la forma al passato del verbo alla sua forma base:

Pronuncia di '-ed'
Le terminazioni '-ed' hanno tre diverse pronunce:
/d/: Dopo tutte le vocali e le consonanti sonore (eccetto /d/) ⇒ walked (caminó)
/t/: Dopo tutte le consonanti sorde (eccetto /t/) ⇒ pressed (presionó)
/ɪd/: Dopo /d/ e /t/ ⇒ waited (esperó)
