In this lesson, we're gonna analyze the differences and similarities between 'climactic' and 'climatic'. No need to worry. They're not difficult.

"Climactic" vs. "Climatic" in English

What Is Their Main Difference?

These two adjectives are completely different. However, they might get confusing because of their somehow similar dictations. 'Climactic' refers to the most intense part of a literary work like a movie, a book, a poem, etc. whereas, 'climatic' refers to the different conditions of the climate.

Differences

As stated above, 'climactic' shows the most intense part of a literary work. It is the part in which you feel extremely emotional. Look:

I literally reached the sublime in the climactic scenes of the movie.

I think the part where Jonathan confronted himself was the climactic scene of the movie.

However, 'climatic' has a totally different meaning. It refers to the different weather conditions. Look below:

In different climatic conditions, the birds fly elsewhere.

Due to unknown climatic reasons, we've had unusual rains during the summer.

Similarities

Their only similarity is that they are written nearly the same.

Are They Interchangeable?

These two words cannot be used interchangeably, so as not to confuse the reader. Compare:

✓ The climactic part of the novel was when Gatsby was shot in his own mansion.

X The climatic part of the novel was when Gatsby was shot in his own mansion.

Here, the sentence is wrong because the wrong cannot be 'climatic'.
