"Geek" vs. "Dork" in English

What Is Their Main Difference?

Both are used to describe people. However, 'geek' is someone greatly enthusiastic about technology and learning new things in general, whereas, 'dork' is a socially awkward person who does ridiculous things.

Differences

These two have interesting histories together. 'Geek' was originally used to point out that someone was unskilled and ridiculous in the company of others. Then it moved on and its meaning was changed. Nowadays, we use 'geek' to refer to someone that is somehow obsessed with learning especially difficult subjects that are mainly technology-related. When I was young, many of my fellow classmates hated classroom geeks.

'Dork', however, is a fool who is known to do foolish and ridiculous things. Let us check out the following examples

Dorks usually think they're so cool when in reality they are not.

Similarities

Generally speaking, they are used to describe people. Interestingly, they were completely the same in the past, but 'geek' changed through the course of the years. Look at the examples below:

Just because she is not like you guys doesn't mean she is a dork.

There are many computer geeks in this party.

Are They Interchangeable?

Since they have different meanings these days, they cannot be used interchangeably. We now use 'geek' to show someone's obsession and enthusiasm in something. Compare:
