Teaching vs. Training
What Is Their Main Difference?
Both refer to instructing someone to do something correctly. However, 'teaching' is about educating learners academically and helping them gain knowledge, whereas, 'training' is more about teaching someone practical skills.
Differences
'Teaching' is educating some people in particular academic subjects. Learners gain more theoretical and academic understanding. Teachers teach a variety of subjects at schools, universities, institutes, etc. Look at the examples below:
My friend has been teaching English for years now.
A therapist will not teach you what to do. They rather help you decide what's best for you.
'Training', on the other hand, refers to teaching more practical skills, along with the necessary knowledge that comes with that particular skill. Check out the following examples:
My vocal trainer has fallen in love with me.
TTC is the short form for teacher training course.
Similarities
Both indicate instructing someone to do something properly. Look below:
What are you gonna teach me this session?
We all spent a week in Warner's training room.
Are They Interchangeable?
Although they are both instructors, it is not really common to refer to school teachers as trainers. However, some native speakers tend to use them interchangeably. Compare:
✓ My vocal teacher has caught the flu.
✓ My vocal trainer has caught the flu.
