Example

The book would be interesting provided that it includes dragons.

Meaning

'As long as' and 'provided (that)' are synonyms. They are used to express the meaning 'if.' They introduce conditions and possible results.

Example

You may go out as long as\ you are feeling well.

You may go out provided that you are feeling well.

Formality

'Provided (that)' is more formal than 'as long as.' 'Provided that' is mainly used in written English. If we are using it in spoken English, we use 'provided' without 'that.'

Example

I will text you as long as I have time.

I will text you provided that I have time.

I will text you provided I have time.
