used to introduce an exclusion

Ex: She can play every musical instrument except the drums .

sentence [noun]

a group of words that forms a statement, question, exclamation, or instruction, usually containing a verb

Ex: She wrote a long sentence in her essay .

verb [noun]

(grammar) a word or phrase used to describe an action, state, or experience

Ex: The verb in a sentence tells us what the subject is doing .

adjective [noun]

a type of word that describes a noun

Ex: My English teacher gave me a list of adjectives to memorize .

noun [noun]

a word that is used to name a person, thing, event, state, etc.

Ex:

clause [noun]

(grammar) a group of words that contains a subject and a verb and functions as a unit within a sentence

Ex:

vocabulary [noun]

all the words used in a particular language or subject

Ex: Our English class today focused on vocabulary related to the environment .
