In this lesson, we've decided to delve into the differences between these two. If you still wanna enhance you English language proficiency, join me.

"Quality" vs. "Quantity" in English

What Is Their Main Difference?

Both are features of something. However, 'quality' is a special characteristic of something, whereas, 'quantity' shows the amount of it. In other words, 'quality' refers to the way something is, while 'quantity' is about its price.

Differences

As mentioned above, 'quality' refers to the manner of something. It is subjective and it indicates a special characteristic of something. The examples below show the quality of the items:

Those shoes are magnificent.

Here, the highlighted word indicates how the shoes look like.

These automobiles seem luxurious.

'Quantity', on the other hand, refers to the price or number of something. As it is clear, the number of something is fixed so it is objective. Look at the examples below:

A : How much is this handbag?

B : It is 400$.

Nearly 10 people were injured last night.

Similarities

As stated above, both describe different features of an object. Check out below:

It costs 70,000$ to accommodate this community.

Here, we are talking about the quantity.

Aw, this village looks so peaceful.

In this example, we are talking about the quality.

Are They Interchangeable?

As it was clear above, these two refer to different features of objects. Therefore, they can never be used interchangeably. Compare:

✓ Many consumers have agreed that this shop sells high-quality clothing for a fair price.

X Many consumers have agreed that this shop sells high-quantity clothing for a fair price.

As you can see, this one does not make any sense.
