Wisdom vs. Intelligence
What Is Their Main Difference?
Both refer to the mental ability to grasp and understand different types of information, skills, emotions, etc. However, 'intelligence' is mainly about the fundamental level of understanding in humans, and it has different types for example: 'Interpersonal intelligence', 'spatial intelligence', 'linguistic intelligence', 'musical intelligence', etc. 'Wisdom', on the other hand, comes from gaining life lessons.
Differences
'Wisdom' comes from gaining life lessons and various experiences. It takes a long time. Look at the following examples:
It is clear that she has gained wisdom through out the years.
The wisdom with which to proceed has been given to us.
'Intelligence' is about the ability to grasp and understand different kinds of information. Look at the examples below:
Emotional intelligence is about accepting your emotions, not fighting them.
Can you tell me a bit about the different types of intelligence in humans?
Similarities
Both refer to the ability to understand information, learn new skills, etc. Look at the examples below:
Not everyone is gifted with musical intelligence.
It requires a greater wisdom to solve this dilemma.
Are They Interchangeable?
Although they are both used in similar contexts, they cannot be used interchangeably because 'wisdon' is acquired through experience and takes much longer than 'inteliignece'. Compare:
✓ People who have healthy boundaries are considered to have emotional intelligence.
X People who have healthy boundaries are considered to have emotional wisdom.
As you can see, this example is incorrect.
