What Is Their Main Difference?
They are only similar in that they have identical pronunciations and their dictations are nearly the same. However, 'wonder' refers to thinking about something, whereas, 'wander' is about moving around pointless.
Differences
'Wonder' basically, putting time and thinking about something. Take a look at the following examples:
I was wondering when you will be able to turn in your paper.
And you still wonder why she hasn't texted you?
'Wander', on the other hand, refers to physically moving around without any goals and purposes. Take a look at the following examples:
What will you gain from wandering around in the forest?
Jack left the pub and wandered the streets of London.

Are They Interchnageable?
Although they both look similar, they cannot obviously be used interchangeably because 'wonder' is about thinking, whereas, 'wander' is about moving around without any purposes. Compare:

As you can see, this example is incorrect.
