'Although' as a Subordinating Conjunction
Mainly, 'although' is a subordinating conjunction. Look:
- One is to indicate that despite the fact that something happened, the result is still surprising. Take a look:
She remained calm,
- The next one is to show contradiction and it means 'but':

She can fight with herself,
Position in a Sentece
'Although' always comes before the subordinate clause. Note that if it is at the beginning of the sentence, we must put a comma when the subordinate clause finishes; and when it is used in the middle of the sentence, a comma is used before it. Look:
I can let you inside,
As you can see, a comma is necessary before the conjunction when it comes in the middle of the sentence.
Here, a comma is used between the two clauses when 'although' is used at the beginning of the sentence.
