What Is Their Main Difference?

The only similarity between these two words is that their dictations are nearly identical. 'Desert' is a place that has no trees, and no water. It is dry and extremely hot in summer. However, 'dessert' is a delicious dish like a slice of cake, or a cup of tea, and the like that you eat after the main dish.

Differences

As asserted above, a 'desert' refers to a dry place that has no water, no trees, and literally nothing in it. Check out the following examples:

Have you ever been to any deserts?

Sahara is a famous desert in Africa.

'Dessert', however, refers to a delicious sugary, creamy, or sweet kind of food that you eat after the main dish. It can be ice cream, baklava, cake, a cup of tea, etc. Check out the following examples:

So, would you like to order anything for dessert?

Similarities

Are They Interchangeable?

We mentioned that these two words are only similar in that they have somehow identical dictations. So, they cannot be used interchangeably. Compare:

X So, I'd like to order a baklava with a cup of tea for desert.
