Everyday vs. Every day

Now, do you wanna improve your language proficiency? Still interested in learning about grammatical differences? Well, at the right place you are!

"Everyday" vs. "Every day" in the English Grammar

What Is Their Main Difference?

These two are similar in that they have the same dictations. However, 'everyday' refers to a particular, mundane routine someone has whereas, 'every day' refers to each day separately.

Differences

'Everyday' is an adjective. It is used to talk about the routine of things that we do every day. Check out the following examples:

These are my everyday shoes.

If there is one thing I hate in this world is everyday chores like tidying up the house.

'Every day', on the other hand, is a phrase and it refers to each day separately. Let us look at some examples below:

But mom I cannot call you every day.

All jobs get boring eventually because you have to go to a particular place every day.

Similarities

As stated above, they are similar in that they refer to doing something for days. For instance:

Johnson's parents keep fighting with each other every day.

It's my everyday duty to check up on you, ma'am.

Are They Interchangeable?

Although they look the same, they cannot be used interchangeably because one is an adjective, while the other one is a phrase. Compare:

✓ Is this what you wear to work every day?

X Is this what you wear to work everyday?

As you can see, we cannot use 'everyday' like this.
