What Is Their Main Difference?
Both refer to people who go to new places. However, a 'traveler' is a person who travels to different places. He/she may not go back to the previous place they were in. A 'tourist' is someone who moves to a new place temporarily in order to have fun and relax.
Differences
A 'traveler' is someone who mainly travels from one place to another. Look at the following examples:

A 'tourist' is a person who moves to a new location in order to have fun and relax. Look at the following examples:
Today, I saw a group of tourists. They were from India.
As I was walking by the other day, I saw several tourists eating ice cream standing there.
Similarities
Both refer to people who move to new different places. Check out the following examples:

Some tourists have difficulty communicating with foreginers.
Are They Interchangeable?
Although they are both used in similar contexts, it is recommended that you avoid using them interchangeably because a 'traveler' is someone who moves to different places, whereas, a 'tourist' is someone who goes to a new place temporarily in order to have fun. Both examples below are correct but they have different meanings. Compare:
