"Borne" vs. "Born" in English

What Is Their Main Difference?

They are both past participles of the verb 'bear'. However, 'born' is used when we want to indicate giving birth to someone, whereas, 'borne' refers to carrying something and spreading it.

Differences

'Borne' refers to carrying something with oneself, whereas, 'born' refers to giving birth to someone/something. Look at the examples below:

Example

He was born a warrior.

Similarities

They are both pronounced similarly and they are past participles of the verb 'bear'.

Are They Interchangeable?

Since they have different meanings, they cannot be used interchangeably. 'Born' refers to giving birth to someone, while, 'borne' refers to carrying something with oneself. Compare:

Example

✓ She was born in Korea but she grew up in the United States.

X She was borne in Korea but she grew up in the United States.

As you can see, this one makes no sense.
