This time, we will look into these words and see how different and similar they are. Well, if you wanna learn more, come on.

"Valentines day" vs. "Valentine's day" in English

What Is Their Main Difference?

Both refer to the 14th of February when we show our love to the ones we care about. However, since there was a Saint Valentine, we'd better use the possessive 's' to show that it is his day. Some people argue that Valentines day is also correct. 'Valentine's day' with the possessive 's' is the standard form, though.

Differences

Some argue that we must not use the possessive 's' because Valentine's day can refer to both the person we love and Valentine's day card. So, it has to be plural. However, the standard form of it is still with the possessive 's'. Look at the following examples:

Valentines day is not necessarily for couples.

Similarities

Both refer to a day named after Saint Valentine to show love to the person we love. Check out the examples below:

We will be on our honeymoon on Valentines day.

Are They Interchangeable?
