'once' and 'one time' mean the same thing. In this lesson, we will compare them to find out when to use them.

"Once" vs. "One Time" in the English grammar

Which One Is Correct?

'Once' and 'one time' are both correct. They are practically the same. 'Once' is the shortened version 'one time.'

One Single Time

'once' means 'one single time.' It is used as an adverb. Have a look:

I tried skydiving once.

We visited her house once.

As mentioned earlier, 'once' is the shortened version of 'one time.' 'One time' is also used as an adverb. If we replace them, we will convey the same meaning. Watch:

I tried skydiving one time.

We visited her house one time.

Warning

Note that 'once' does not functions only as an adverb. It can also be used as a conjunction. If 'once' is a conjunction then it does not mean 'one single time' and therefore cannot be used interchangeably with 'one time.'
