যতিচিহ্ন কী?
যতিচিহ্ন চিহ্ন বলতে চিহ্ন এবং চিহ্নের একটি সেট বোঝায় যা বাক্য এবং বাক্যাংশের অর্থ পরিষ্কার করতে সাহায্য করার জন্য লিখিতভাবে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
যতিচিহ্নসমূহ
ইংরেজিতে বিভিন্ন ধরনের যতিচিহ্ন রয়েছে। সেগুলোর মধ্যে কয়েকটি হলো:
full stop (পূর্ণচ্ছেদ) (.)
question mark (প্রশ্নবোধক চিহ্ন) (?)
exclamation mark (বিস্ময়বোধক চিহ্ন) (!)
পূর্ণচ্ছেদ
'পূর্ণচ্ছেদ' বা 'full stop' (.) একটি চিহ্ন যা দেখায় যে একটি বাক্য শেষ হয়েছে। আমরা এটি এমন বাক্যের শেষে ব্যবহার করি যা সত্য বা সাধারণ সত্য। নিচের উদাহরণগুলো দেখুন:
The baby is asleep.
শিশুটি ঘুমিয়ে আছে।
There's a children's playground in the park.
পার্কে একটি শিশুদের খেলার মাঠ রয়েছে।
প্রশ্নবোধক চিহ্ন
'প্রশ্নবোধক চিহ্ন' বা 'question mark' (?) দেখায় যে বক্তা একটি প্রশ্ন করছে এবং উত্তর জানতে চায়। নিচে দেখুন:

বিস্ময়বোধক চিহ্ন
একটি 'বিস্ময়বোধক চিহ্ন' বা 'exclamation mark' (!) দেখায় যে বক্তা রাগ, বিস্ময়, আনন্দ ইত্যাদির মতো শক্তিশালী আবেগ প্রকাশ করছে। নিচের উদাহরণগুলো দেখুন:
