Wat Is Interpunctie?
Interpunctie in het Engels verwijst naar een reeks symbolen en tekens die in schrift worden gebruikt om de betekenis van zinnen en zinsdelen duidelijker te maken.
Interpunctietekens
Er zijn veel verschillende interpunctietekens in het Engels. Enkele daarvan zijn:
Full stop (.) (Punt)
Question mark (?) (Vraagteken)
Exclamation mark (!) (Uitroepteken)
Laten we nu bekijken hoe elk teken functioneert:
Punt
De punt of period (.) is een teken dat aangeeft dat een zin is afgelopen. We gebruiken het aan het einde van zinnen die feiten en algemene waarheden zijn. Kijk naar de volgende voorbeelden:
The baby is asleep.
De baby slaapt.
There's a children's playground in the park.
Er is een speeltuin voor kinderen in het park.
Vraagteken
Het vraagteken (?) toont aan dat de spreker een vraag stelt en het antwoord wil weten. Kijk hieronder:
Where are the kids?
Waar zijn de kinderen?
Do you like ice cream?
Hou je van ijs?
Uitroepteken
Een uitroepteken (!) toont aan dat de spreker iets uitdrukt met sterke emoties zoals woede, verrassing, geluk, enzovoort. Bekijk de volgende voorbeelden:
