to match the current bet or raise made by another player in the same round of betting, thereby staying in the hand and retaining the chance to win the pot

suivre, caller
to pass the action to the next player without making a bet, when there has been no previous bet in the current betting round

(poker) to discard the top card from the deck face down before dealing the flop, turn, and river cards, in order to prevent cheating by revealing the top card accidentally or intentionally

brûler, défausser
when a player with a strong hand loses to a player with a stronger hand that improbably or luckily improves on the later streets, causing the player with the stronger hand to lose a large pot or even the entire game

grosse défaite, coup malheureux
a card that is dealt face-up and is available for all players to use in making their hand, rather than being dealt to a specific player
