"Person" vs. "People" in English

What Is Their Main Difference?

Both refer to human beings. However, 'person' is the singular form and shows one individual, whereas, 'people' is the plural form and it refers to more than individuals.

Differences

'Person' refers to one individual, while, 'people' refers to a group of human beings. Look at the examples below:

Example

Ow, she is a lovely person.

What are these people doing out here?

Similarities

They are similar in that they both refer to human beings. Check out the following examples:

Example

You're the right person for this.

Thousands of people have joined the protests.

Are They Interchangeable?

We cannot use them interchangeably, because one is singuale, whereas, the other one is plural. Compare:

✓ I wonder why people are so easily manipulated.

X I wonder why person are so easily manipulated.
