"Work in progress" vs. "Work in process" in English

What Is Their Main Difference?

Both are phrases that indicate we are working on a project. However, 'work in progress' is the British form and it is more common than 'work in process' which is the American variant.

Differences

The only difference between them is that 'work in progress' is the British phrase and 'work in process' is the American variation. Note that the British one is more common than the American one. Look below:

We've come so far, but it is still in progress.

Gaining more approval from customers is still a work in process.

Similarities

They both indicate that someone is working on a project to improve it. Check out the following examples:

If you look at yourself as a work in progress, you wouldn't continue blaming yourself.

Are They Interchangeable?

They can be used interchangeably. Although native speakers prefer 'work in progress. Compare:
