短縮形とは？
短縮形とは、2つの単語が結合されて一部の文字が取り除かれた形です。
短縮形の作り方
短縮形を作るには、取り除かれた文字の代わりにアポストロフィを1つ使います。
I’m here. → I am here.
私はここにいます。
She’s here → She is here.
彼女はここにいます。
短縮形を使うタイミング
短縮形はさまざまな状況で使用されます。主なものをいくつか紹介します。
「Be」 動詞の短縮形
「Be」 動詞のいくつかの形、例えば 「am」、「is」、「are」などは短縮されることができます。例えば：
She’s coming. → She is coming.
彼女が来ています。
We’re talking → We are talking.
私たちは話しています。

否定の助動詞と法助動詞
「Not」 は動詞を否定するために使われます。否定動詞の短縮形を使うには、「o」 の文字を取り除き、その代わりにアポストロフィを使います。これは法助動詞と助動詞の両方に適用されます。

注意！
「I am not」 の短縮形を使う場合、「be」 動詞のみを短縮することができ、否定形の部分は短縮できません。そのため、短縮形は 「I'm not」 となり、「I amn't」 にはなりません。
法助動詞も 「not」 を使って否定形にされます。助動詞と同様に、「not」 から 「o」 を取り除いて短縮形を作ります。例えば：
She shouldn't go. → She should not go.
彼女は行くべきではない。
He can’t sing. → He cannot sing.
彼は歌うことができない。
