Co jsou to kontrakce?
Kontrakce jsou zkrácené formy slov, kde se dvě slova spojí a některá písmena se odstraní.
Jak tvořit kontrakce?
Pro vytvoření kontrakce se používá apostrof na místo odstraněného písmene.
I’m here. → I am here.
Jsem tady.
She’s here → She is here.
Je tady.
Kdy používat kontrakce?
Kontrakce se používají v různých kontextech. Zde jsou některé z hlavních:
Zkrácené tvary sloves „be“
Různé tvary slovesa „be“, včetně „am“, „is“ a „are“, mohou být zkráceny. Například:
She’s coming. → She is coming.
Ona přichází.
We’re talking → We are talking.
Mluvíme.

Záporové pomocná slovesa a modální slovesa
„Not“ se používá k vytvoření záporu sloves. Pro použití zkrácené formy záporného slovesa se odstraní písmeno „o“ a na jeho místě se použije apostrof. To lze provést jak u modálních, tak u pomocných sloves.

Pozor!
Pro použití zkrácené formy „I am not“ lze zkrátit pouze sloveso „be“, nikoliv záporný prvek. Takže zkrácená forma bude „I'm not“ místo „I amn't“.
Modální slovesa jsou také vyjádřena v záporu pomocí „not“. Stejně jako pomocná slovesa mohou být zkrácena odstraněním písmene „o“ ze „not“. Například:
She shouldn't go. → She should not go.
Neměla by jít.
He can’t sing. → He cannot sing.
Neumí zpívat.
