Qu'est-ce que la négation ?
La négation consiste à rendre une phrase négative pour indiquer que quelque chose n'est pas vrai ou ne se produit pas.
Deux mots négatifs
Deux mots sont couramment utilisés en anglais pour rendre une phrase négative :
No (non)
Not (ne ... pas)
No
« No » est utilisé comme réponse négative à une question fermée.
Is there any cake left for me?
No! Sorry!
Il peut également venir avant un nom pour former une phrase négative et indiquer la négation.
We have no time to celebrate.
Nous n'avons pas le temps de célébrer.
He has no friends.
Il n'a pas d'amis.
Not
« Not » est le mot le plus courant utilisé avec les verbes pour indiquer la négation. Par exemple :
I am not a student.
Je ne suis pas étudiant.
La forme contractée de « not » est « n’t » et elle vient souvent après les auxiliaires ou les verbes modaux pour rendre la phrase négative.
