¿Qué es la negación?

La negación implica hacer una oración negativa para mostrar que algo no es cierto o no sucede.

Dos palabras negativas

Hay dos palabras que se usan comúnmente en inglés para hacer una oración negativa:

  • no
  • not

No

'No' se usa como respuesta negativa a una pregunta de sí/no.

- 'Is there any cake left for me?' + 'No! Sorry!'

- '¿Queda algún pastel para mí? +'¡No! ¡Lo siento!'

También puede ir antes de un sustantivo para formar una oración negativa y mostrar la negación.

We have no time to celebrate.

No tenemos tiempo para celebrar.

He has no friends.

Él no tiene amigos.

A diferencia del español, que no permite la negación directa del sustantivos, el inglés puede usar 'no' delante del sustantivo para crear una oración negativa.

Not

'Not' es la palabra más común que se usa con verbos para mostrar la negación. Por ejemplo:

I am not a student.

Yo no soy estudiante.

La forma corta de 'not' es 'n’t' y a menudo se coloca después de verbos auxiliares o modales para hacer la oración negativa.

She isn't working on Friday.

Ella no trabaja el viernes.

I can't sing.

Yo no puedo cantar.
