an introductory piece written by the author of a book explaining its subject, scope, or aims

Ex: The book ’s preface provides historical context for the reader .
quirky [adjective]

having distinctive or peculiar habits, behaviors, or features that are unusual but often appealing

Ex: The quirky inventor came up with all sorts of unusual gadgets and contraptions that fascinated and amused his friends .

to go or be beyond the material or physical aspects of existence, indicating a superior existence or understanding

Ex: Great art has the ability to transcend time and cultural boundaries .
ruthless [adjective]

showing no mercy or compassion towards others in pursuit of one's goals

Ex: The ruthless landlord evicted tenants without warning , caring only about profits .
