Nevenschikkende voegwoorden in het Engels zijn woorden die woorden, zinnen of clausules met gelijke belangrijkheid in een zin verbinden.
Hoofdnevenschikkende Voegwoorden
Het Engels heeft drie hoofdnevenschikkende voegwoorden:
And (en)
Or (of)
But (maar)
And
'And' wordt gebruikt om een woord toe te voegen aan een ander woord. Bijvoorbeeld:
She is beautiful. She is kind. = She is beautiful and kind.
Ze is mooi. Ze is aardig. = Ze is mooi en vriendelijk.
I called Hanna. I called Tommy = I called Hanna and Tommy.
Ik belde Hanna. Ik belde Tommy = Ik belde Hanna en Tommy.
Or
'Or' wordt gebruikt om twee of meer keuzes te noemen. Bijvoorbeeld:
Are you sad? Are you angry? = Are you sad or angry?
Ben je verdrietig? Ben je boos? = Ben je verdrietig of boos?
Do you like pizza? Do you like pasta = Do you like pizza or pasta?
Hou je van pizza? Hou je van pasta = Hou je van pizza of pasta?
But
'But' wordt gebruikt om een contrast tussen twee woorden of zinnen te tonen. Bijvoorbeeld:
She is beautiful but cruel.
Ze is mooi maar wreed.
I love fruits but I’m allergic to strawberries.
Ik houd van fruit maar ik ben allergisch voor aardbeien.
